Happy Valentine's Day!

I partied all day long at the kids parties at school. Here are a few pictures.

Charles

My grandmother's husband Charles passed away yesterday morning. Grandmother married Charles in the summer of 1993, so I did not know him until I was an adult. I got married a couple of years after that and then had kids. Charles treated my kids just like they were his own great-grandkids. When Joshua was real little, he used to call both Grandmother and Charles "Charles", because he loved Charles so much. He was always so happy to see them (and the feeling was mutual), and he would walk them all around the yard and house, looking at whatever they wanted to show him. He has been suffering with Alzheimers for several years, during which time his mind progressively got worse. Some days were better than others. About a year ago, he fell several times on the ice and hit his head (he kept forgetting the ice was slippery), and soon after that he was hospitalized with bleeding in his brain. After a lengthy hospital stay, he was moved to a nursing home, where he has remained since then. I am sad to lose him, but knowing he would have never really improved, especially mentally, I know he is in a better place now. I will be traveling to Dallas in a couple of days for the funeral.

GT Testing

Joshua was nominated by his teacher to test for the gifted and talented program at his school, and the testing starts this Saturday. Please keep your fingers crossed for him! I really think he needs this to keep from becoming bored with school.
